THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified several social media accounts and individuals linked to a viral performance video as part of an ongoing investigation into its alleged content involving the royal institution, Malaysia and the Rukun Negara.

MCMC said preliminary checks found that the video, which has recently resurfaced and gone viral on social media, was originally recorded during a stage performance in 2018.

“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has received complaints regarding a stage performance video which is currently going viral on social media and is alleged to contain content touching on the royal institution, Malaysia and the Rukun Negara,” it said in a statement today.

MCMC said the identified accounts and individuals would assist with the investigation, which is being conducted in cooperation with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The investigation includes examination of digital evidence, it said.

MCMC also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information about individuals linked to the video, saying this could interfere with the investigation process. - September 19, 2026
