PETALING JAYA – The silence from Bersatu top echelons is deafening as they conclude their Supreme Council meeting, and statements, if any, will be issued by secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

The press was only given bits of information after the three-hour meeting that began at 8.45pm last night at Yayasan Selangor.

“Our secretary-general will issue a statement today,” said party president and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Other party leaders and top guns seen leaving the meeting were Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Armada chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, and Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu had echoed Umno’s statement on dealing with the flood aftermath in Malaysia.

“We (Bersatu) discussed matters involving the public, including the recent floods and such.”

The meeting was speculated to be a tit-for-tat move against its Perikatan Nasional coalition partner Umno’s own Supreme Council meeting last night.

Umno had issued a statement after the meeting, saying that it will maintain its ties with Islamist party PAS while its Bersatu ties will be decided at its general assembly on January 31.

The two parties in PN have been at each other’s throats in recent months, and Umno had even overthrown Faizal from his post as Perak menteri besar. – The Vibes, January 7, 2021
