MIRI – The number of new Covid-19 positive cases in Sarawak today hit a new record high of 180, up from the 166 new cases yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee just now released the latest figures that showed Sibu district having 150 out of the 180 new statewide cases today.

“Due to the high escalation of cases in Sibu, the MCO will be enforced in Sibu and the surrounding Kanowit and Selangau (sub-districts adjacent Sibu). “

"The MCO will take effect from Jan 16 to Jan 29,” the committee secretariat said.

Today also saw new positive cases in Miri with nine, Bintulu, four, Kuching, four, Dalat, three, Simunjan and Sebauh with two each, and Limbang, Sarikei, Tebedu, Betong, Saratok, and Lubok Antu with one each.

The secretariat said Sibu now has a grand total of 449 positive Covid cases in the Sibu Hospital.

Miri Hospital have 185, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching with 99 and Bintulu Hospital with 35.

The secretariat said that due to the constant surge in infections throughout Sarawak, every person intending to enter this state must undergo swab tests and other relevant health checks three days before arrival.

Only if their tests are negative will they be granted permission to enter.

Everyone who wants to enter Sarawak will have to seek approval from the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee via online sites of the said name. – The Vibes, January 14, 2021
