KOTA KINABALU – The Covid-19 situation in Sabah is stabilising, as the number of new Covid-19 cases is gradually dropping.
The number of fresh cases has halved to only about 200 cases for the past three days, from more than 400 last week.
Sabah recorded 288 new cases today, making a total of 48,307 cases.
State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said although the pandemic situation in Sabah has been improving, it is high time that people strictly adhere to standard operating procedures and avoid mass gatherings.
“If you want to gather, please do so only among the people in your house.
“Do not invite other people into your house. Please have patience. We can gather when the pandemic situation in Sabah further improves.”
A total of 468 Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from hospital today.
In a daily Covid-19 live update today, Masidi said the high recovery rate in the state proves that medical frontliners in hospitals, and low-risk Covid-19 treatment and quarantine centres, have been doing an excellent job.
“The high recovery rate will reduce the pressure on our hospitals and treatment centres, and increase bed availability.”
Two coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the state today, one each in Papar and Kota Kinabalu.
Four schools in Sandakan closed for sanitisation
As reported by The Vibes yesterday, four secondary schools in Sabah, all in Sandakan, were ordered to close due to the detection of Covid-19 cases among teachers and students.
Masidi said since the beginning of this year’s term on January 20, no other school was closed due to the virus other than the four in Sandakan.
The four schools are SM St Mary Sandakan (one case, involving a teacher), SMK Elopura (10 cases, involving seven hostel students, one student, two teachers), SMK Batu Sapi (one student, one teacher), and SMK Perempuan Sandakan (one student).
“The schools will be closed for 10 days. The affected students will undergo e-learning sessions,” Masidi said.
He also revealed that from January 20 to date, a private kindergarten in the state has been closed due to a positive case, but no further detail was provided. – The Vibes, January 29, 2021
