KUALA LUMPUR – The reason behind Malaysia’s high number of Covid-19 infections is due to late reporting of cases, said the Health Ministry.
In a statement tonight, it said this includes the late reporting of cases to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, including those detected last year.
“The rise in cases is caused by targeted screening in worksites, close contact tracing and screening of individuals from high-risk groups conducted at a large scale in several states.
“However, these late-reported cases have been addressed by the relevant district Health Departments through isolation, treatment and conducting close contact tracing.”
It added that there has also been late reporting by private healthcare facilities.
Yesterday, Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 chairman Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad shared the same sentiment concerning Selangor’s rise in coronavirus infections, attributing it to late reporting.
The former health minister recommended ramping up the usage of RTK-Ag test kits and increasing the number of frontliners to handle the pandemic. – The Vibes, January 31, 2021
