KUALA LUMPUR – Netizens have slammed Tebrau MP Steven Choong’s decision to support Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following the former’s statement on Facebook this afternoon.
Facebook user Jeannette Ng commented: “I am very surprised that Mr Steven Choong is joining PN (Perikatan Nasional), at the same time, very sad and disappointed.
“I will never respect anyone who is willing to trade in their soul for anything. Will always support PH (Pakatan Harapan).”
User Damien Chan posted: “Mr Choong, as the representative of Tebrau, have you consulted us before making this unilateral and unlawful act?
“This is disrespectful to voters, including myself, who voted for the party, as the majority wishes for this constituency to belong to PH.
“Yet you breached (it) for your own personal agenda. I hope that you would contest once again this year, we, the rakyat, will make sure that you will lose in the upcoming election.”
Mark Stuart wondered whether Choong has been offered positions to switch sides.
“So, which GLC (government-linked company) position were you given?”
In a Facebook post hours after Muhyiddin announced his backing for the ruling PN, Choong said people in his constituency are still faced with a multitude of matters, including floods, illegal dumping and moneylending, scam syndicates, low-cost housing, river pollution, as well as issues related to foreign workers and small and medium enterprises.
“I hope that with my 40 years of experience as an accountant, internal and external auditor, tax agent and business consultant, I am able to work with all ministers and government agencies to find solutions to the mentioned matters.
“I am willing to help the government, especially if it is in my area of expertise. If called upon, I am willing to work with the Finance Ministry to find solutions, and plan a taxation system that will increase revenue, while not burdening the business community and people.”
Choong and Julau MP Larry Sng have handed over statutory declarations stating their support for the PN government. Sng has left PKR to become a government-friendly independent. – The Vibes, February 28, 2021
