KOTA KINABALU – The political feud between Bersatu and Umno will not affect Sabah, because the leaders here practise a different kind of politics than those in the peninsula, said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor today.
The chief minister said GRS component parties have come to this understanding: the culture of Sabah politics is not the same as that in Peninsular Malaysia.
“We are grateful that the events happening in West Malaysia will not have bearing in the state.
“Their politics are different than ours. Although we live as one nation, but we are still separated by the South China Sea; we cannot follow the way things are done there.
“We, in GRS, share a political understanding. This is the pact we have sealed with Umno and other parties.
“We have just received the mandate from the people, so we have to respect their wishes, and up until now, everything we do is to fulfil their aspirations.”
Recently, state Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said Sabah Umno’s cooperation with Sabah Bersatu will not be troubled by the events in West Malaysia.
On seat distribution for the upcoming general election, Hajiji said informal talks between parties are constantly done, but nothing official has been decided.
“There is no need to quarrel for seats, as I am certain GRS will reach a compromise near election time.” – The Vibes, April 1, 2021
