KOTA KINABALU – People in Sabah may not be able to relax just yet as 106 new Covid-19 cases, almost double yesterday’s figure of 60 cases, hit the Borneo state today.
Tawau district recorded the highest number at 63 cases, followed by Sandakan (14) and Lahad Datu (10). A total of 49 cases out of the total new cases were detected from close contact screening.
Sandakan and Tuaran districts, which were classified as yellow zones (1-20 active cases) yesterday, have turned orange (21-40 active cases) today.
These figures were announced by Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in a statement today.
On Tuesday, Sabah had recorded 112 fresh infections, after 51 days of double-digit infections.
No new cluster was announced today, but one Covid-19 related death was recorded in Tawau today.
The state first recorded daily cases in the double digits on February 15 following a spike in infections starting September 17 last year, during the state election campaign for the September 26 state polls.
Sabah has recorded 55,400 positive Covid-19 cases to date.
Meanwhile, Masidi said that 1,640 people received the Covid-19 vaccination today, making a total of 46,678 vaccinated people in Sabah. – The Vibes, April 8, 2021
