KUALA LUMPUR – Celebrity Noor Neelofa Mohd Nor and her husband, Muhammad Haris Mohd Ismail, will be summoned to the Nilai district police station over another alleged violation of the interstate travel ban.

Police initiated an investigation after photos and videos surfaced on social media showing the couple allegedly visiting a carpet shop at the Nilai 3 business centre in Negri Sembilan recently.

Nilai police chief Mohd Fazley Ab Rahman told Utusan Malaysia that the case is being probed under Section 21A of the Rule 19 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021.

“The parties involved will be called to IPD Nilai, Negri Sembilan, to give their statement soonest and the investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office after it is completed.

“The police would like to advise the public to continue to comply with the conditional movement control order (CMCO). Failure to comply with this order will result in action taken under the provisions of the law.”

Neelofa had three weeks ago issued an apology when photos and videos of her visit to Nilai were widely shared on social media. The materials were later deleted but that did not stop the public backlash.

Six days ago, Neelofa and her family were fined RM60,000 for flouting the interstate travel ban.

She was compounded RM20,000 without the possibility of a discount while Haris received a RM10,000 fine. Police issued the compounds after the couple travelled out of state to Langkawi for their wedding recently.

Twenty of Neelofa’s family members were also fined RM1,500 each, for a total of RM30,000.

Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah had in a statement said Neelofa was fined RM20,000 for committing two offences.

One is for violating SOPs at her wedding ceremony at a hotel here, and the other is for travelling out of state without approval, he added.

Haris, better known as PU Riz, was fined for travelling out of state without approval.

Neelofa’s family members who were issued compounds were found to have not complied with the 1m physical-distancing rule during her akad nikah ceremony here.

The couple’s wedding was held on March 27 here. A few days later, they were reportedly in Langkawi for business purposes.

However, pictures of the two strolling along the island’s tourist spots circulated on social media, inciting public backlash. – The Vibes, May 3, 2021
