KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 6,824 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the nationwide total caseload to 572,357.

Of the new infections, only three are imported.

The Health Ministry said there were 67 deaths, taking the toll to 2,796.

Despite 5,251 recoveries in the past 24 hours, a record-high 851 patients are still in intensive care units, with 422 requiring breathing support.

Selangor, again, logged the highest number of daily cases with 2,111 today, followed by Kelantan (695), Sarawak (654), Johor (489), Kedah (464), Kuala Lumpur (387), Melaka (352) and Penang (328).

States that have fewer than 300 infections are Perak (255), Negri Sembilan (253), Pahang (219), Sabah (207), Terengganu (204), Labuan (166), Putrajaya (28) and Perlis (12).

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 67 fatalities today involved 15 victims in Selangor, 12 in Johor, eight in Sarawak and six in Kedah, while Kelantan and Negri Sembilan claimed five victims each, Pahang claimed four, Melaka (3), Penang (3), Labuan (3), Sabah (2) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

He said the country has recorded 2,188 clusters since the beginning of the pandemic, including 25 new ones today.

A total of 1,533 clusters have ended, while 655 are active.

Out of the 25 clusters today, 16 are related to workplaces, nine from the community, one from a higher education institution, and another from a high-risk group.

Selangor’s Jalan Alam Jaya cluster in Hulu Langat recorded 35 cases, while its Jalan Perusahaan Dua Lima cluster in Hulu Langat, Gombak and Petaling has 29 cases. Both are workplace clusters.

Sarawak logged the Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri workplace cluster in Bintulu with 49 cases; Jalan Jambusan-Sunchar community cluster in Bau and Kuching (10); and Muara Tabuan workplace cluster (152).

Johor’s Jalan Sierra Perdana Empat cluster in Johor Baru recorded seven cases, while its Jalan Mahsuri Kluang cluster in Kluang has 52 cases. Both are workplace clusters.

Melaka logged the Klebang construction site cluster in central Melaka with 124 cases, while Penang recorded the Lintang Bayan Lepas Enam workplace cluster in Seberang Prai with 25 cases, and Industri Bukit Minyak Tujuh workplace cluster in Seberang Prai with 15.

Pahang’s Industri Indera Mahkota 14 cluster in Kuantan has 28 cases, while its Industri Jalan Karak workplace cluster in Bentong has 37 cases, and Jalan Sudirman workplace cluster in Temerloh has 18.

Kuala Lumpur logged the Jalan Pantai Permai community cluster in Lembah Pantai with 22 cases, and Persiaran Titiwangsa high-risk group cluster in Titiwangsa and Kepong with 13 cases.

Terengganu’s Langgar Hilir Community cluster in Hulu Terengganu and Marang recorded 32 cases, while Kelantan registered the Kg Gelong Badak community cluster in Bachok and Kota Baru with 18 cases, and Tok Jawa community cluster in Bachok with 10.

Kedah logged the Dah Bagan community cluster in Padang Terap and Pendang with 41 cases, and Dah Batu Dua higher learning cluster in Kota Star with 19 cases.

Perak’s Kg Sg Kerang community cluster in Manjung and Central Perak recorded 21 cases, while its Kg Laneh community cluster in Kuala Kangsar and Kinta recorded 23 cases.

Finally, Sabah logged the Millennium community cluster in Tawau with 34 cases. – The Vibes, May 31, 2021
