KOTA KINABALU – With most people wondering how Covid-19 patients are faring while in quarantine, three-time Ironman challenge finisher Ahmad Marzuki Nasir decided to come out with a video to answer questions from the curious and concerned.

The 41-year-old produced a 47-minute video while in isolation here after testing positive for the coronavirus late last month.

“I think those who have not undergone quarantine have not been getting the right information. This is why I came out with the video,” he told The Vibes.

“People asked me whether I had to follow a medication regime. No.

“The doctors told me that 80% of Covid-19 patients are asymptomatic. There are positive cases who say they have back pain and fever.

“But, treatment is simple. For instance, if you have a headache, the doctors will prescribe you paracetamol and so on. If you don’t show symptoms, you just go along with self-confinement. No medicine needed.”

In his video, he shares what needs to be done before starting quarantine.

“Many of the things being told to people have created the wrong impression, such as patients being brought to the ICU, photos of patients having to use ventilators.

“It is not like that. Some of us even played football in the extension ward,” said Marzuki, who was moved to the Likas sports complex after a few days in hospital.

He had been due to travel to Spain for the Barcelona Ironman after the Sabah election, but his plan was halted after a friend from his hometown of Semporna tested positive for the coronavirus.

Marzuki underwent screening upon his arrival here, and was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on September 30. He was discharged on October 11.

He said he lost his sense of smell and taste on his fourth day of quarantine.

“Even after being discharged, my taste buds are still recovering. But now, I can smell the smoke from cigarettes.

“I haven’t started training yet. But there is not much difference anyway, as I still did workouts in the ward.” – The Vibes, October 17, 2020
