KUALA LUMPUR – Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has warned that sporadic Covid-19 cases remain high, especially in the Klang Valley.

From January 1 to June 19, Malaysia has recorded 398,846 sporadic cases, making up 69% of the cumulative caseload.

Of these, Selangor logged 151,725 sporadic cases (38%), Kuala Lumpur (44,517, 11.2%) and Sarawak (40,889, 10.3%).

In a statement today, he said that sporadic cases refer to those detected in the community but not linked to existing clusters, and more worrying are asymptomatic cases.

In the epid week ending last Saturday, the Klang Valley had the most sporadic cases with Petaling logging 3,905 cases, Hulu Langat (2,783) and Klang (2,482).

The maps above show the spread of sporadic and cluster cases in the Klang Valley between this year’s epid week 13 and 24.

“This clearly shows the rise of sporadic cases and a wider spread compared to previous weeks. Despite the movement control order 3.0 bringing down cluster cases last week, sporadic caseload has yet to show a marked difference,” he said.

He attributed this to Klang Valley’s high population density, not just exposed to sporadic cases, but at risk with asymptomatic ones.

“The Health Ministry urges the people to adhere to the SOPs and to observe self-quarantine as a step to curb sporadic and asymptomatic cases, especially in high-density and high-risk areas.”

He reiterated the need to remain at home unless necessary, adhere to SOPs set by the National Security Council, optimise the use of technology to stay in touch with friends and family, and opt for online shopping whenever possible.

He also advised the people to undergo screening if one is showing symptoms or is a close contact of a Covid-19 patient, and notify the ministry if they test positive.

“Those undergoing home surveillance orders should be isolated from family members staying in the same house. Lastly, please register yourself and your family for the vaccine to help the country achieve herd immunity.” – The Vibes, June 21, 2021
