Speaking to the press outside the police station after his questioning, Leong slammed the Perikatan Nasional government for misusing police and other government agencies for its personal political interests.
“They denied us our right as the people’s representatives to go to Parliament last Monday.
“Police have no right to interfere in political affairs, but now, they have no choice as they have received orders to conduct investigations.
“This is a waste of their energy because there are many other tasks that need to be done.”

The PKR lawmaker reiterated his party’s stance that PN is a failed government, and called for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet to step down.
“It is the responsibility of all politicians, regardless of their party, and the people to rise and ask the government to step down.
“Do not destroy our democracy, do not destroy our country, do not destroy the lives of the people.”
Police will record a statement from former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Jerlun MP Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir at 2.30pm today at the Perdana Leadership Foundation.
Nothing but intimidation, says Santiago
Klang MP Charles Santiago shared the same sentiment, saying that it is a “criminal waste of time and resources” for police to conduct investigations on those who took to the streets during the #Lawan protest and the march to Parliament.
“It is a criminal waste of time and resources when we should all be focused on keeping the raging pandemic under control.
“Every lawmaker has an office in Parliament and the police cannot block the roads as it amounts to abuse of power.
“In fact, it’s nothing but intimidation and harassment by the ‘bully boys in uniforms’. Their job is to ensure we have uninterrupted access to our respective offices in the Parliament building,” Santiago said in a statement today.
He said he hopes police would stop such “senseless acts” and work in the interest of the country and the people. – The Vibes, August 9, 2021
