KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Gual Ipoh assemblyman Mohd Bakri Mustapha has resigned as a Lembaga Kemajuan Kelantan Selatan (Kesedar) board member effective immediately.

In a press conference in Kota Baru, Bakri said his decision is in solidarity with Umno’s stand to no longer support the Perikatan Nasional federal government, reported Malaysiakini.

“I informed Kesedar president Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz yesterday of my resignation.

“I will send him an official letter after this. The chairman received my resignation and understands the current situation.

“I love Umno. The decision by the president and Supreme Council must be upheld with dignity. God willing, Umno will be strengthened by the solidarity shown by members like me.”

He said two factions appeared in the party recently.

On Friday, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also Bera MP, said 31 Barisan Nasional lawmakers will remain in the government until Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin faces a confidence vote in Parliament next month.

Since then, Lenggong MP Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Parit Sulong’s Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad have resigned from the cabinet.
