KOTA KINABALU – Vaccination centres (PPVs) that do not meet its capacity will be closed and focus will pivot to outreach initiatives, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
He said the move will also allow better use of valuable manpower in the state.
“Since most communities have been vaccinated, some PPVs cannot optimise the existing manpower.
“So, it is best to use them for outreach services,” said the local government and housing minister today after an anniversary celebration for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government’s first year in power.
Masidi, however, could not confirm how many PPVs would be closed after the restructuring of the vaccination programme in the state.
On a related issue concerning the disparity between state and federal figures on the number of persons vaccinated, he said the state numbers are more “updated”.
“It will take time for the federal agency to collect the data... We are very sure as we are the ones managing the numbers,” he said.
The rate of vaccination is a topic of interest as Sabah plans to end its inter-district travel ban on Friday.
The move would require 60% full vaccination of the adult population in Sabah.
Figures from the Covid-19 Task Force shows that 59.5% of the adult population in Sabah has been fully vaccinated, but state numbers shows the rate at 63.5%. – The Vibes, September 29, 2021
