MIRI – A local middle-aged man and his female companion from China have been arrested for drug trafficking in Miri.
The suspects were nabbed during a raid yesterday evening in the Piasau housing area in the outskirts of the city.
Miri deputy police chief Mohd Sabri Zainol told a press conference today that the duo are suspected to be supplying drugs such as ecstasy pills to entertainment centres in Miri.
“Our police team carried out a raid at a house and found about 7.8kg of drugs kept by the two inside,” he said.
"The drugs have a street value of RM148,000. Probes showed they have been distributing drugs in Miri for the past six months.”
The duo are being placed under remand in the Miri central police station lock-up pending further investigations.
They will be produced in court to face charges under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in dangerous drugs, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. – The Vibes, October 1, 2021
