KOTA KINABALU – The state government will allow Sabahans to travel between districts from October 14 onwards, while domestic travel will be made available from November 1.
According to a statement by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the state government is satisfied as over 70% of the state’s population has been fully vaccinated as of October 11 according to the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force.
Inter-district travel, Hajiji said, is subject to the condition that travelling individuals are fully vaccinated.
“Teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years are allowed to travel as long as they have received a single dose of vaccine, while children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by parents who are fully vaccinated.”
Hajiji said the state government has also approved interstate travel into Sabah from November 1 onwards.
“Entry into Sabah for social and tourism purposes is subject to several conditions, including that individuals must be fully vaccinated, and are required to undertake the Covid-19 Rt-PCR or RTK-Ag tests three days before their visit.”
Similarly, entry into the East Malaysian state requires that teenagers aged between 12 and 18 years have received a single dose of vaccine, while children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by parents who are fully vaccinated.
Initially, the Sabah government had allowed inter-district travel within five Sabah zones from September 30 on as follows:
Zone 1: Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud
Zone 2: Beaufort, Sipitang, and Kuala Penyu
Zone 3: Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, and Beluran
Zone 4: Lahad Datu, and Kunak
Zone 5: Keningau, Tambunan and Tenom.
Kinabatangan, Telupid, Tongod, Sandakan, Kalabakan, Tawau, Papar, Semporna, and Nabawan have been categorised as standalone districts, seeing that they have yet to achieve a 60% fully vaccinated rate for the adult population, according to the new standard operating procedures for the state. – The Vibes, October 13, 2021
