KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, have retained their positions after they won uncontested in the party election for the 2021-2023 session at the 67th annual assembly.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that four candidates will contest for another three vice-president posts.
“Three of them are incumbents, namely Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Idris Ahmad; Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah; and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
“The new candidate is Dr Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki, formerly a PAS central working committee member.
“The fifth candidate, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is also Kedah Menteri Besar, withdrew himself from contesting the post.
“A total of 36 candidates are vying for 18 central committee member posts,” Berita Harian reported Takiyuddin as saying during a press conference at the party’s 67th annual assembly today.
He also announced that Hussin Ismail and Kamal Ashaari won uncontested to remain as permanent chairman and deputy chairman, respectively.
This year’s assembly did not see PAS including its political partners, be it those who are connected or otherwise with the party and non-governmental organisations, in the assembly.
“We only invite certain people like PAS veterans, with the maiden speech presented by PAS president at the opening ceremony,” said Takiyuddin.
A total of 1,546 delegates will be taking part in the assembly this time around, with 694 in Kuala Terengganu, and the rest via a hybrid mode in their respective states.
Takiyuddin said that those attending this year’s assembly include 197 leaders nationwide and delegates from Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
