KUALA LUMPUR – The Chief Registrar’s Office of the Federal Court has debunked allegations that chief justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat had colluded and conspired with certain political leaders to expedite the court cases involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In a statement today, the office said it has lodged a police report denying the claims of existence of conspiracy and collusion between politicians and the chief justice.

“The chief justice has never communicated with or was contacted by any political leaders in relation to the court cases involving Najib and Zahid,” it said.

“Cases that are still ongoing should be allowed to proceed in accordance with the law, without any forms of interference by the chief justice or any other individuals.

“The office stresses that any irresponsible quarters making and disseminating such allegations intend to tarnish the image of the court and cause the public to lose confidence in the judiciary.”

It added that the allegations are meant to subvert the administration of justice in the ongoing trials of the two Umno leaders.

The statement is in response to a leaked document supposedly prepared by PAS, outlining the contents of meetings between party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar with several leaders of other political parties.

Among other things, the report had alleged that a top political leader had suggested that the attorney-general and chief justice have agreed to expedite the cases involving Najib and Zahid and to sentence them.

This is supposedly part of a larger plan to get Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to lead Umno, with the promise that Najib and Zahid would later be given a pardon.

Samsuri has denied the allegations contained in the report, although he admitted that the meetings with the named politicians had taken place.

Takiyuddin has yet to respond to a request for comment by The Vibes.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who was also named in the report, had earlier told The Vibes that the allegations in the supposed document are “total rubbish and crazy”, saying those responsible for making the claims “have lost all consideration”.

The document, among other things, purportedly suggested that Zahid and Najib shall not hold any power in Umno, with the promise of being pardoned, a conclusion arrived at following the meeting with Hishammuddin on April 7. – The Vibes, April 21, 2022
