GEORGE TOWN – The Fire and Rescue Department have launched a search-and-rescue operation for a man who allegedly jumped off the Penang Bridge at about 11.42am today.

Senior Fire Officer Noor Sakila Said reported that the search-and-rescue team from the Prai fire station rushed to the scene at KM4.0 from the island heading towards the mainland.

The department said in a statement that the victim, identified as Tee Wee Kuang, 28, was reported by a passerby who saw him jumping off the bridge.

She said they found a car belonging to the victim with its engine still running at the scene.

Search operations are still ongoing at the time of publication.

The media have reported numerous suicide cases on Penang Bridge, and many have advocated that the authorities should introduce plans to deter people from jumping off from the bridge. – The Vibes, May 16, 2022
