BALIK PULAU – “There are a lot of people I met recently, so I don’t remember each and every one of them.”
This is the response by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali when asked about rumours that he met two PKR representatives at a hotel in Petaling Jaya last Wednesday.
He added that he had visited many hotels in the past week and “could not remember” the names of every hotel he visited.
“Sheraton Hotel? I went to many hotels, I don’t remember which hotel,” he said when met after visiting the Craft Incubator Centre here today.
Earlier, Azmin was rumoured to have met two PKR representatives at a hotel in Petaling Jaya last Wednesday, allegedly in an attempt to gain “insurance” for his political future.
As soon as news broke over the alleged meeting, Azmin issued a statement two days later, reiterating his commitment to Bersatu, saying that the party is now part of his identity.
Asked whether the talks that he would return to PKR were true, he denied the matter.
“The name is speculation, so it’s not true.”
He said he is also ready to contest anywhere in the next general election, according to the decision set by the Bersatu leadership.
In jest, he added that he is ready to contest even in Permatang Pauh if that is what the party wants.
“I leave it to the party. I am confident, with the family spirit that I have built in Gombak. God willing, Gombak will remain under the Perikatan Nasional.”
Azmin’s position is now in the spotlight after his old ally Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin left Bersatu and joined fledgling Parti Bangsa Malaysia last month. – The Vibes, June 20, 2022
