KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Bersatu leaders have been barely promoting its own party, preferring to proselytise the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) pact, said Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The former prime minister said he believes the situation shows that the Umno splinter party’s popularity has dropped, adding that this is happening both in the peninsula and also in Sabah.
“I see they (Sabah Bersatu) are not as strong anymore and their popularity has dropped.
“Their leaders (in Sabah) are no longer selling Bersatu, instead they are promoting the GRS brand.
“If they are strong, they would definitely talk more about their own party,” said Najib when met by reporters at a high tea organised by keyboard warrior group Aktivis Maya here today.
Najib was questioned on the different political scenarios in Sabah and the peninsula.
He noted the political situation in Sabah is very much influenced by the politics in Peninsular Malaysia.
“But the Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders need to correct the view that the coalition is not controlled by peninsula leaders, as it is controlled by leaders from Sabah itself.”
Towards this end, he said, BN has a big chance at forming the government given the current political developments in the country.
“I think the majority will go to BN but we need to determine the right strategy and field capable candidates,” he said. – The Vibes, July 1, 2022
