SANDAKAN – Sabah DAP is slamming Warisan for its direct “attack” on the party through the latter’s leaflets that were distributed across the state recently, which purportedly contain allegations against DAP on various acts.
Sabah DAP publicity secretary Vivian Wong said that Warisan maliciously accusing DAP is deemed not aligned with their party’s own stand.
Wong called on Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal to clarify if the leaflets are a part of his party's ways of moving forward, or if the act was orchestrated by certain individuals in the party who have hidden agendas.
“We are frustrated and utterly disappointed that our once ally has been hauling all sorts of malicious and baseless accusations at us.
“We hope that Shafie will clarify this issue once and for all,” she said in a statement today, adding that the leaflets have allegedly been distributed around Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, and Tawau.
The leaflets sighted by The Vibes did not only highlight Warisan’s achievements but also described why people should not vote for DAP.
A stamp at the bottom of the leaflet read that they were distributed by Warisan Kota Kinabalu’s office in Luyang.
It appeared to target Chinese voters, with Chinese and English versions available.
There is a page titled Why have we become estranged from DAP?, with several points listed, including that DAP has supported the government by signing the memorandum of understanding (MoU), and that Lim Guan Eng reportedly had a secret meeting with Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Wong, who is also Sandakan MP, stressed that the main objective of the MoU was to ensure political stability in Malaysia through a bipartisan agreement while delaying the dissolution of Parliament until after the situation with the Covid-19 outbreak improves.
She said the content of the MoU was also never kept a secret. It is accessible on the website of the Parliament for the public’s consumption.
“Most importantly, the MoU also calls for the government to reform current institutions, including introducing the anti-hopping law, the Undi18 automatic registration, and matters related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“All these three constitutional amendments, especially the anti-hopping statute, would not have been possible without the MoU. Legislation against jumping (parties) would not have even crossed the prime minister’s mind if not for the MoU,” Wong added.
She said the signing of the MoU does not in any way translate to unconditional support for the current government, taking rejection of the government’s motion to extend the Sosma bill as an example.
“The call to vote for Warisan – to let Warisan be the ‘kingmaker’ is simply a disguise to allow Warisan to be an opportunistic ‘third force’ where they can choose to align with whoever wins the election later, be it BN/Umno or other parties.
“This may explain why Warisan has been so relentlessly attacking DAP/PH instead of the current ruling BN and PN, even though Warisan called themselves an opposition party,” she added. – The Vibes, August 4, 2022
