KUALA LUMPUR – Former chief justice Tun Md Raus Sharif, retired Sarawak attorney-general Datu Abdul Razak Tready and International Islamic University associate professor Datuk Shamrahayu Ab Aziz were appointed to the Judicial Appointments Commission for a two-year term.
They were appointed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob effective yesterday to September 3, 2024, under subsection 5(1)(f) of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009 (Act 695).
Meanwhile, former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Suriyadi Halim Omar’s appointment was renewed as well.
In a statement by the commission, it expressed gratitude and appreciation to Datuk Prasad Sandosham Abraham, Datuk Stephen Chung Hian Guan and associate professor Datuk Johan Shamsuddin Sabaruddin, whose appointments ended on September 3.
Raus was appointed in January to lead the Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate management and operational issues that plagued Lembaga Tabung Haji between 2014 and 2020.
Razak was previously appointed to the JAC between April 17, 2017 and April 16, 2019.
Shamrahayu in 2019 courted controversy after being implicated in the leak of an alleged executive summary of a briefing to the Conference of Rulers, which was said to cause the federal government to withdraw from the Rome Statute. – The Vibes, September 5, 2022
