KUALA LUMPUR – Muslim leaders should emulate the Prophet Muhammad in building a fair and just society and not fight for narrow agendas, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah said in his royal address in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul celebrations today.
“We all should learn from the successes of the Medina government where its strength lay in its socio-economic system that ensured rights and fairness for all, the unity of the ‘ummah’ (Muslim community) and a dynamic economic development.
“The Prophet also prioritised the needs of the many instead of any individual. The Prophet did not fight for a narrow agenda, and instead acted justly by building a coalition for the prosperity of all,” the king said.
He cited the formation of Medina as an example of this and spoke of how the Prophet had managed to unite Muslims, local inhabitants, and even Jews through the Medina Charter.
In the same speech, the Agong also said Islam has taught its followers to prepare for trials and tribulations in the future.
He then said all agencies as well as the people must be prepared for the possibility of floods stemming from the coming monsoon season.
“At this juncture, I would like to remind the rakyat to prepare themselves and conduct the necessary preparations to face climate change.
“I also urge all relevant agencies to make the necessary preparations for the benefit of the ummah,” he said.
On Thursday, Sultan Abdullah visited the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre in Ampang to be briefed on disaster and flood preparedness ahead of the monsoon season, which is expected to start in the middle of November.
The king’s visit came ahead of his audience with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob the same afternoon amid speculation that the latter would seek the Agong’s consent to dissolve Parliament to pave the way for a snap general election.
Later however, Istana Negara said in a brief post on its Facebook that the king and Ismail Sabri only had a regular pre-cabinet weekly audience. – The Vibes, October 9, 2022
