KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that Malaysians will come out and exercise their democratic right to vote despite facing a multitude of socioeconomic issues as well as the threat of floods in the upcoming 15th general election.
While Muhyiddin expressed sympathy for ordinary Malaysians possibly wading through floodwaters to get to their respective polling stations, he said they would not want to miss the opportunity to get a better government.
“I think the rakyat is ready for it (general election) as much as I would say that they are facing a lot of problems but I think they want to exercise their right as voters to get a better government that would take care of them, a government that would take care of their livelihood and I think Perikatan (Nasional) is offering that.
“As much as they are facing floods, their own problems but hopefully the percentage of voters turnout, some speculate it will be low, but I hope that will not happen,” he said in a press conference after attending a Pahang PN meeting earlier today.
Muhyiddin also assured that all of PN election’s machinery will do its best to help with flood relief efforts while helping voters in flood-hit areas reach their intended polling stations.
However, he also urged all relevant government agencies to do their part to help with flood relief efforts and aid Malaysians to come out and vote as well.
The incumbent Pagoh MP also stated that PN respected the decision by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to consent to the dissolution of Parliament as requested by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He, however, stressed that PN was against the general election being held during the year-end flood season. – The Vibes, October 10, 2022
