KOTA BARU – To become a party’s candidate is not a personal right, as all decisions are determined by the party’s top leadership said Ketereh Umno division head Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

He said every member of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) should prioritise the spirit of sacrifice and serving the party completely, even if they are not nominated to contest in the 15th general election (GE15).

Annuar said the practice of sabotage or “cah keting” should not happen among members because it is not only detrimental to the party, but it can also affects oneself.

"Cah keting, a term which was originally used in football, means we not only hurt people but also hurt ourselves. Therefore, this practice should not be in politics,” he said.

Yesterday, caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob advised BN members not to get caught up in the practice of sabotage if they are not nominated for GE15.

The Umno vice-president said those who are not nominated should accept the party's decision with an open heart and not get involved in such acts as they could cause BN to lose, even in its own stronghold.

In the meantime, Annuar said the selection of candidates also needs to meet several key criteria such as being approved by the leadership, having the approval of the party machinery and being liked by the people.

“If you want to be a candidate to represent an organisation or party, then it is the party’s right to choose, not ours. But if you still want to be a candidate to run, get the form yourself,” he said. – Bernama, October 22, 2022
