ALOR GAJAH – Former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (special functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof is facing three challengers as he defends his Alor Gajah parliamentary seat.

The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal Getaran reported that the Bersatu supreme council member is now contesting under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket after the party exited the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition during the Sheraton Move.

Redzuan, also known as Pak Wan, will be facing off against former Melaka chief minister Adly Zahari, Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan and Muhammad Nazriq Abdul Rahman, who is running under the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) umbrella.

All candidates submitted their forms before the nomination period closed at 10am. There are no independents trying their luck in the Melaka seat.

The announcement was made by returning officer Datuk Saiful Hazwa Kipli at the nomination centre in Dewan Taming Sari, Universiti Teknologi Mara in Lendu today.

The atmosphere today is also far different from the previous state election, which was held during the movement control order (MCO).

Crowds of supporters added to the colour and pageantry in Alor Gajah as the nation celebrates democracy unlike last year, when only the candidate and their proposers were allowed to enter the nomination centre.

In the last general election in 2018, Redzuan took down Wong Nai Chee from BN and PAS’ Nazree Aris with a 6,980 majority.

Melaka will see six parliamentary seats being contested but its state assembly did not dissolve, seeing that state polls had taken place in 2021. – The Vibes, November 5, 2022
