PENAMPANG – Six items in Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) manifesto for the 15th general election are designed just for Sabahans, Upko vice-president Datuk Ewon Benedick said.
The PH candidate for Penampang said Upko leaders had fought hard for the six items to be included in the manifesto.
They include fighting for Sabah’s indigenous community, narrowing the development gap between itself and other regions, and empowering Borneo through the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
Other items are the decentralisation of federal power so that Sabah has more autonomy, and the creation of more job opportunities and investment attractions in the state.
Importantly, the issue of illegal immigrants in the state is also a major manifesto component for Sabah.
Benedick said this in his speech during a campaign talk in Dewan Amore Puru, Putatan.
Benedick, who is the incoming Upko president, said if PH becomes the federal government, he will propose new electoral borders in Penampang to increase the number of state seats in the district.
He said this is upon the request of people in Penampang.
“If Putatan, the smallest district in Sabah can have three state seats, then there is no reason why Penampang cannot have more than two state seats,” he said. –The Vibes, November 8, 2022.
