KUALA LUMPUR – PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has walked back his statement that Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) would form the government after the 15th general election (GE15), saying he was misquoted.
“I would like to emphasize here that my statement was taken out of context and the title (of news reports) is also misleading voters.
“I stress that I have full confidence that PN will be able to form a government on its own and that the prime minister will be from Perikatan Nasional. We believe the people have more confidence in PN which emphasis caring, stability and being clean,” Takiyuddin said in a statement today.
His statement comes shortly after PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tweeted that Takiyuddin had never been given the mandate by PN to discuss with BN on forming a post-election government.
Muhyiddin had made those remarks following news reports quoting Takiyuddin saying that the two coalitions would likely forge an alliance to form the next government if neither secured enough seats for a majority in Parliament through GE15.
As such, Takiyuddin said PAS, which is a member of PN, would continue to take a conciliatory approach towards BN despite Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi labelling the Islamist party as “parti lebai” (party of devouts) and dismissing talk of a post-election pact.
Takiyuddin was reported to have made those remarks last night while campaigning in Kg Kubang Kiat in Kota Baru, Kelantan.
Muhyiddin had also tweeted that PN was contesting in GE15 with the intention of forming the government by itself, without any pact with either BN or Pakatan Harapan. – The Vibes, November 15, 2022
