KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood evacuees in Kedah rose slightly compared to a reduction in Kelantan, Melaka and Johor while situations remained unchanged in Selangor last night.
In Kedah, evacuees rose to 53 people from 13 families with one relief centre opening in Bandar Baru’s Surau Kg Berjaya, housing 13 people from three families as of 8pm last night – compared to 42 people from 11 families in the evening, Kedah Civil Defence Force disaster management committee secretariat division chief Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said.
“Heavy rain caused the water level to rise, affecting three houses in Kg Berjaya in Bagan Samak sub-district. The drainage system that is stuck also caused water to flow too slowly,” he said in a statement last night, adding that the centre at Sg Seluang Mosque in Kulim was housing 40 people from 10 families.
In Selangor, the number of flood evacuees in the state remained the same at 184 people from 51 families since yesterday evening.
Three relief centres are still open, SK Sg Sireh, SMK Jeram and SJK(C) Yuk Chih Batang Berjuntai, which have been open since the last weekend.
In Kelantan, the number of evacuees dropped to 2,036 people from 688 families as of 8pm last night compared to 2,090 people from 692 families in the evening.
They are being housed in eight relief centres in Pasir Mas district, with Sg Golok’s water level in Rantau Panjang exceeding warning level with a reading of 8.97m – fortunately with a downward trend.
In Melaka, the number of evacuees dropped to 59 people from 16 families as of 8pm yesterday compared to 64 people from 18 families last evening.
The evacuees are being housed in two centres, 48 people from 13 families in Alor Gajah district, and 11 people from three families in Melaka Tengah district.
The evacuees were evacuated from Kg Bukit Tambun, Kg Bukit Balai, Kg Pulau, Kg Belimbing, Pengkalan, Kg Panchor and Taman Tamby Chik Karim.
In Johor, evacuees in four flood-hit districts, Tangkak, Kluang, Segamat, and Pontian dropped to 343 people as of 8pm from 346 people yesterday evening.
The district disaster management committee said in a statement that 39 people were at Balai Raya Kg Batu Badak, Dewan Komuniti Tasek, Segamat (14); Dewan Utama Kg Ithnin Maarof (32) di Kluang; SK Melayu Raya, Pontian (15); SK Simpang 5 Darat (135) and Sekolah Agama Simpang 5 Darat (108).
The weather in several districts in the state, including Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi and Mersing, was reported to be cloudy.
In Perak, the disaster management committee secretariat said that eight centres were open as of 10pm last night, housing a total of 447 people from 128 families.
Five new centres in Perak Tengah district are housing 202 people from 60 families, while two centres in Manjung district are housing 105 people from 30 families, and the centre in Larut Matang and Selama district is housing nine people from three families. – Bernama, November 16, 2022
