KUALA LUMPUR – The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) scheduled to end today in Kg Numbak and the Telipok settlement in Kota Kinabalu has been extended to December 13.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement today, said the decision was made following risk assessments by the Health Ministry.

“As of November 27, the ministry confirmed there were still 109 active (Covid-19) cases in Kg Numbak, while the Telipok settlement had 136 active cases.

“In addition to the high number of active cases, more residents in these two localities are required to undergo screening.”

The EMCO was enforced in the two localities on November 16.

Ismail Sabri said 648 individuals were arrested yesterday for breaching movement-control rules.

He said 594 were issued compounds, while 54 were remanded.

Among the offences are participating in entertainment activities (331), failure to observe social distancing (102), failure to wear a mask (65), and undertaking interstate and inter-district travel without police permission (64).

He said 99 illegal immigrants were nabbed in Op Benteng at the Thai border.

Two smugglers were detained and two land vehicles seized, he said, adding that the authorities mounted 280 roadblocks.

“The government will take action against any party that attempts to enter the country illegally, and enforcement agencies will continue to tighten security in border areas, especially rat lanes.”

From July 24 to yesterday, he said, 77,211 individuals returned to Malaysia from abroad, and were placed under quarantine at 79 hotels and 18 public training institutes.

Of the total, 10,611 are still undergoing quarantine, while 405 were sent to hospital. – November 29, 2020
