KUALA LUMPUR – Contrary to fears stoked by certain quarters, Malay-Muslims remain the majority in the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Asyraf lambasted those who alleged that the unity government is dominated by non-Muslims.

He calculated the number of Malay MPs from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional, and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, tallying them up at 68 people.

Following the addition of three lawmakers from Warisan and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah each, the number is increased to 74 Malay-Muslim lawmakers in the Dewan Rakyat, said Asyraf.

This is in contrast to the 34 Chinese lawmakers, eight Indian lawmakers, and two from other races within the unity government.

Therefore, the Malay-Muslim lawmakers in the Malaysian unity government come up to 74 people, which is the highest and remains the majority,” he said.

Since taking office, Anwar, who is PH chairman and MP for Tambun, has faced an intense wave of slanderous allegations, with his critics playing up racial and religious sentiments.

Anwar has even instructed police to investigate those who went overboard in issuing slanderous statements and baseless accusations that threaten the country’s harmony. – The Vibes, December 1, 2022
