KUALA LUMPUR – The Batang Kali state seat was declared vacant by Selangor Speaker Ng Suee Lim after its assemblyman failed to attend state sittings for more than six months.
According to Ng, Pejuang’s Harumaini Omar failed to provide a reason for his absence.
In the 14th general election, Harumaini won the state seat under the Bersatu ticket with a majority of 8,315 votes.
According to the state speaker, the last time Harumaini was present at the state assembly was on July 27, 2022, and that the six-month interval started on the following day.
“The attendance book shows that he has been absent for the whole term from November 23 to December 6 of last year.
“As the Speaker, I declare the seat vacant effective January 28,” said Ng.
He also stated that Harumaini is no longer eligible to attend the next sitting on March 13 as an assemblyman.
He also added that there was a similar case in the past where the Port Klang state seat was declared vacant after Badrul Hisham Abdullah was absent for more than six months in 2011. – The Vibes, February 16, 2023
