KUALA LUMPUR – Two days after the conditional movement control order (CMCO) was lifted in most parts of the country, people continue to be caught for violating simple standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent Covid-19.

The police yesterday detained 182 individuals for failing to comply with basic requirements to ensure their own safety and that of others.

One of them was remanded while the rest were all issued compounds, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement today.

"Among the offences were failure to observe social distancing (66 cases), not wearing face masks (60), failing to have equipment to record details of customers (46), and others (10),” he said.

Also, from July 24 to December 7, a total of 83,737 individuals have returned to Malaysia and placed in 76 hotels and 18 other quarantine centres.

Of these, 12,097 individuals are currently undergoing the compulsory quarantine while 509 have been sent to hospitals for treatment. A total of 71,131 quarantined individuals have returned home since July 24.

On inspections at construction sites, Ismail said 13,820 enforcement operations have been performed at 7,936 construction sites from April 20 until December 7.

Yesterday, inspections were conducted on 18 sites, of which 17 were found complying with SOPs. The operator of one construction site was given a warning for failing to comply.

Meanwhile, under Ops Benteng, which is implemented to stem illegal entry into the country especially at border areas, a total of 31 undocumented immigrants were nabbed while three land vehicles and one boat were seized, Ismail said. –  The Vibes, December 8, 2020
