PETALING JAYA – Voters in Selangor have called on all candidates contesting here to stop “bickering” over irrelevant issues and instead clearly lay down their plans for their respective constituencies if they are given the mandate.
Several voters who spoke to The Vibes said they have given up reading news about the state elections because it was all nothing but mere “repetitions”.
“Most of the time we only read about personal attacks hurled against each other. We honestly do not really care about these issues. What concerns us most are bread-and-butter issues.
“We want to know what is going to be done to improve our lives, in terms of the economy, education and especially health.
“The rising cost of healthcare is a major concern for many of us, especially since Malaysia is an ageing society and we have to worry about healthcare for our parents,” said Simon Cheong, a 32-year-old voter from Subang Jaya.
According to him, he has not even decided if he is going to come out and vote on polling day.
“I have not really made up my mind. Until now, I have not seen any candidate speaking about matters that matter. To me, it all seems like they are more keen on their personal interests,” he said.
Another voter, Ferida Ali, 49, said her main concerns were health and education.
“I will vote for whichever party can convince me that they are going to do something that matters for the people.
“We are not bothered about all these personal attacks being hurled at each other or who said this and who said that.
“We want to know what the future holds and what is going to be done to ensure a better society for our children,” she said.
The accounts executive said until today, there has been “nothing concrete” being said by any of the candidates.
For first-time voter Ernest Rabindran, 23, from Subang Jaya, said his excitement “has died down” and he was also contemplating whether he should go out to vote.
“It is nothing but the same old story. The arguments by both the candidates and party leaders are without any substance.
“We, the younger generation need some new hope, something we can hold on to and hope for the future.
“But sadly, the current crop of candidates and leaders do not seem to appeal to us at all.
“I will wait till the last minute before deciding if I should go out and vote,” he added. – The Vibes, August 7, 202
