MINISTER of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has cancelled his Chinese New Year open house due to the severe flood situation in Bintulu.

In a Facebook post, the Bintulu MP said the open house earlier scheduled for Feb 9 was cancelled as all attention must be on assisting the flood victims.

"People have lost their homes, belongings and have suffered great losses.

"The right thing to do is to focus our efforts on relief and recovery work rather then celebrating," he said.

He said he had also visited several evacuation centres, including those in Suarah and Paragon to assess the situation and ensure the victims were well cared for.

"I urge the relevant authorities to ensure the victims are well cared for and receive all the support necessary during these difficult times.

"During my visits, I noticed several issues and have instructed the authorities to take immediate action to rectify things," he said.

He also stressed that all victims must be given sufficient food and drinks, as well as essential supplies.

"Medical teams must also be on standby to assist the victims whenever needed," added Tiong. - February 1, 2025
