THE lorry driver who allegedly rammed a Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) truck, killing nine personnel, has six previous criminal records, including one rape case.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the 45-year-old male suspect has been sentenced to prison for the offence.

“Upon review, he has one criminal case of rape, one drug case and four criminal cases of theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

"All these cases have been dismissed," he said in a press conference at the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters (IPD).

According to Ayob Khan, the urine test on the suspect was found to be negative and there was no evidence of the use of prohibited substances including ketum as was reported on social media.

"The urine test has been done and the results are negative. We also confirm that the allegation that the suspect was carrying ketum is not true," he said.

He said police would complete the investigation by taking further statements from the suspect.

This includes reviewing all technical aspects of the collision involving the lorry carrying a load of stones.

The tragic incident that occurred at 8.50 am this morning killed nine FRU members from Unit 5 Sungai Senam who were on their way back from an assignment in Teluk Intan to Ipoh.

Of the total, eight died at the scene while another died while receiving treatment at the hospital. - May 13, 2025
