DEPUTY Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin will face a nine-cornered fight in the Bongawan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat in the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN), this time.

Mohamad, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kimanis, will be challenged by former Foreign Minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman and the incumbent of the Bongawan state seat, Dr Daud Yusof, who represents Warisan.

Anifah, who represents Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), previously contested the same seat as a candidate for Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) in the 16th Sabah polls in 2020.

Anifah served as Foreign Minister between 2009 and 2018 under the administration of Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as Prime Minister.

Daud managed to wrest the seat from Mohamad with a majority of 795 in the 14th General Election (GE-14) 2018. Apart from the three big names, the Bongawan DUN also saw the presence of candidates from the Perikatan Nasional (PN); Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM); Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS): Parti Impian Sabah (PIS); Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and an Independent candidate.

PN is betting on Ridzuan Agus Payong; Peter Matinjal represents KDM while Hussin Dasar @ Esah is the PPRS candidate in the seat.

Meanwhile, Royston Adven is the PIS candidate followed by Dolores Michael for STAR and an Independent candidate, Md Haris Md Tahir. - November 15, 2025
