UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of his proposal to form a grand coalition of Malay-Muslim political parties.
However, PKR Information Chief and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said PKR has yet to confirm whether the party has received any official invitations regarding the issue, as such matters are usually handled by the party's secretary-general.
"Ahmad Zahid has informed Anwar of this. I think among the top leadership, they understand this.
"Normally, for official letters or invitations, it will be channelled to the secretary-general. As for PKR, I have not spoken to Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh (PKR secretary-general).
"I need to check with her whether we have received any invitations as mentioned," he told the media today.
At the UMNO General Assembly yesterday, Ahmad Zahid raised the idea of forming a grand coalition of Malay and Islamic parties, describing it as a step to strengthen political stability and unity among Malay-Muslim political parties.
The statement sparked discussion as PKR is a major component of the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led Unity Government, which also includes Barisan Nasional (BN), a coalition led by UMNO. – January 18, 2026
