THE body of an X-ray technician was found floating in a river near Masjid Seberang Pumpong along the Sultanah Bahiyah Highway, Alor Setar, this morning.

Kota Setar police chief Syed Basri Syed Ali said that the body of Nurul Nadia Aziz, 39, was discovered by members of the public at about 8.27 am, before the incident was reported to the police for further action.

"Based on information provided by the victim’s father, the woman, who was a single mother, worked as an X-ray technician at a health clinic in Jitra and had a history of mental illness, for which she was receiving hospital treatment,” he said in a statement reported by Bernama.

He added that the next of kin informed police that the last time they were with the victim was at 7.31 pm yesterday, when she broke fast with her family.

Syed Basri said preliminary investigations at the scene found no elements of criminal activity on the victim’s body.

"The woman has been a single mother since 2023 and is survived by three sons, who are currently under the care of her former husband, in Kulim,” he said, adding that a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted, either later today or by tomorrow at the latest, to determine the cause of death. – February 25, 2026
