FIVE foreign men suspected of fleeing to Singapore after being sought by police in connection with the murder of a man in the Southkey area here on March 14 have been arrested.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said one of the suspects was first detained at 12.15am the day before yesterday while attempting to pass through immigration checks into the republic.
He said that following the initial arrest, four more suspects were detained at about 6pm yesterday with the assistance of Singapore police, after they were believed to have fled across the border.
“The first suspect is currently under a seven-day remand starting from the day before yesterday until next Tuesday, while the other four suspects have been remanded for seven days starting today until next Thursday to assist investigations,” he said.
He added that preliminary urine screening tests showed all suspects were negative for drugs, and background checks indicated that they had no prior criminal records.
Earlier, Ab Rahaman said the incident, which occurred at about 5am, resulted in the death of a 32-year-old foreign national after he was attacked by several individuals using sharp weapons.
“The victim was confirmed dead at Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) here due to a stab wound to the neck,” he said.
Ab Rahaman said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - March 20, 2026
