POLICE in Johor Bahru have arrested 15 individuals in connection with a violent fight that broke out outside a school in the city, an incident that has heightened public anxiety after a video of the altercation went viral on social media.
Iskandar Puteri District Police Chief M Kumarasan said authorities received a report of the incident at around 12.45pm on the previous day, involving a confrontation in front of a school in Bandar Selesa Jaya, Skudai.
Acting on the information, police carried out a series of operations in the Nusa Bestari and Iskandar Puteri areas, leading to the arrest of 15 suspects comprising 13 boys and two women, aged between 12 and 37.
“The cause of the fight was dissatisfaction after one of the suspects was slapped, which led to a brawl after school hours.
“Two local women have been remanded for three days starting today until April 13, while 13 boys have been remanded for four days starting today until April 14 for further investigations.
“Investigations are being carried out under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which, if convicted, carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
“Investigations are also being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which, if convicted, carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both,” he said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the altercation was triggered by a dispute stemming from an earlier incident in which one of the individuals was slapped, escalating into a larger confrontation after school hours.
The two women have been remanded for three days, while the 13 boys are being held for four days to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Authorities are also probing the case under Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, which provides for a maximum sentence of one year’s imprisonment or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
The incident first came to public attention after a video recording of the fight was widely shared on Facebook, prompting concern among the public, particularly regarding the safety of students in and around school premises. - April 11, 2026
