A MAN has been charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Segamat, Johor, with the murder of his friend, who was allegedly stabbed during a violent altercation in Chaah last month.

The accused, S Kumarasan, 30, acknowledged the charge with a nod after it was read out by a court interpreter before Magistrate Amalina Johar. However, no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

At the time of the proceedings, the accused was already serving a five-month prison sentence at Kluang Prison for a separate offence involving causing injury to another victim with a knife.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur 'Aina Muhammad Ismail Tadj, while the accused was unrepresented.
