UMNO vice president, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, has reminded DAP advisor, Lim Guan Eng, not to become a ‘batu api’ (instigator) that can cause bigger problems in the relationship between parties in the Unity Government.

He viewed seriously Guan Eng's statement describing Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) as unreliable partners in the Unity Government.

He said such statements are not helpful and could even worsen the situation when the BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership are trying to find solutions to several issues that have arisen recently.

"I view his (Lim Guan Eng's) statement seriously. Such remarks are unhelpful and could further aggravate the situation.

"I would like to remind Lim Guan Eng not to act as a ‘batu api’ who could trigger bigger problems. If he has negative views of Umno and BN, he should also understand that many within Umno and BN share similar views about him," he said in a statement today.

Wan Rosdy said that for the sake of political stability and the interests of the people, all parties must act maturely and professionally.

"As senior leaders, our responsibility is to unite and strengthen the Unity Government, not to issue statements that could damage relations between the parties in the government.

"The people want stability and solutions, not prolonged political disputes," he said.

It was earlier reported that the former Penang chief minister had issued a statement urging the public to reject Umno and BN in the upcoming general election, branding them as untrustworthy partners in the unity government.

This follows reports of Umno and BN assemblymen withdrawing support for the Negri Sembilan menteri besar, allegedly jeopardising state stability, as well as claims that BN is almost certain to go solo in the next general election despite currently working with PH in the unity government. – May 6, 2026
