We will maintain the price of oil for the people, said Anwar – May 26, 2026

DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim has once again assured that the country's petrol and diesel supply will be sufficient at least until July, despite the world facing economic uncertainty following the conflict in the Middle East and disruption of trade routes in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the prime minister, the government is also still able to maintain the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre despite the increase in shipping costs and insurance due to the conflict.

"Pray for safety because this good relationship helps ensure sufficient fuel supply. So far, we expect until July and August, God willing, diesel will be sufficient.

"As far as we can afford, RON95 fuel remains at RM1.99. Tell me which country is cheaper than Malaysia? There is none, except Brunei," he said when speaking at the Permatang Pauh.

He said that Malaysia is currently in a better situation than several neighbouring countries that are facing fuel supply problems to the point that some gas stations have been forced to close.

"In the Philippines, for example, people are queuing at gas stations, and hundreds of stations have closed. Alhamdulillah, we have not reached that point," he said.

Anwar added that the conflict in West Asia has had a direct impact on the world economy, including Malaysia, following the increase in global crude oil prices and disruptions to international trade routes.

According to him, the increase in shipping and ship insurance costs has also affected the price of goods, but the government is trying to ensure that the people are not burdened.

"Oil is available, but shipping costs have increased because the Strait of Hormuz route is affected. Insurance has increased, so have ship fares.

"But as far as we can, we will maintain the price of oil for the people," he said. – May 26, 2026
