MIRI – Luck was on the side of five people whose boat capsized in Sg Rejang near Kanowit town in central Sarawak today.
The 6pm incident saw a 14-year-old girl, 36-year-old expectant mother, and three men in their 70s rescued by the state Fire and Rescue Department.
“The boat with five people on board was travelling along Sg Rejang from Kanowit town, heading towards Sg Poi, when it capsized after being hit by strong waves,” said the department in a statement.
“The five were saved by other boat users and the public.
“Kanowit Bomba units rushed to the scene upon being alerted.
“They carried the pregnant woman, and ensured that the rest were transported safely to land.”
The five have been sent to Kanowit Hospital for a check-up. – The Vibes, March 3, 2021
