MIRI – The reopening of primary schools at Miri division scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to the highly risky Covid-19 situation here.

The Miri Division Disaster Management Committee – whose purview includes the city of Miri and the districts of Subis and Marudi – announced the decision this evening.

In a press statement, it said that primary schools the reopening has been halted after taking into account the latest development in the local spread of the virus, which shows no sign of abating.

“We in Miri will postpone the reopening of primary schools from March 15 until March 22 due to the high rate of infections now,” it said.

“The situation will be monitored closely to see if the reopening can be done on March 22.”

Miri has seen about 60 new cases of Covid-19 infections over the past two days.
