KUALA LUMPUR – Those against Kelantan Umno severing ties with Bersatu should respect the decision made by the majority, said officers attached to Umno stalwart Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is Gua Musang MP.

There is nothing surprising about Kelantan Umno’s move, the officers told The Vibes, as the grassroots have opted to sever ties with Bersatu at earlier divisional-level annual general meetings.

“The decision of the majority must often be accepted,” they said, commenting on the chapter’s withdrawal of support for Bersatu with immediate effect.

The officials said the formal decision will be made known at the party’s general assembly this weekend.

“It is best to await the decision by the party collectively, but in Kelantan, we have disclosed it because during annual general meetings, Kelantan’s 12 out of 13 divisions have agreed (to cut ties).”

They said the Jeli and Ketereh divisions have abstained from making any decision on the matter.

An Umno veteran leader in Kelantan has urged the party to not be arrogant, especially in issuing ultimatums to PAS.

“In Kelantan, PAS holds the power, not Umno. The Islamist party has been around since 1990 in the state. We need to know where we stand politically and not be driven by sentiment.”

The leader, who prefers to not be named, said Umno should find ways to continue working with PAS, especially in the East Coast. – The Vibes, March 24, 2021
