KOTA KINABALU – PBS and Sabah Star should pull out of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) alliance after failing to stop the inclusion of PAS in the state assembly, DAP women chief and Kapayan rep Jannie Lasimbang.

Sabah PAS secretary Dr Aliakbar Gulasan is one of six nominated assemblymen to be sworn in tomorrow.

This comes after PBS president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili and Sabah Star president Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan had denied that the appointment would take place.

“Supporters of Sabah Star and PBS would not have agreed to allow PAS, an islamist party, to be a member of the assembly just as so many members of the public, institutions, NGOs and political leaders have expressed in the last few days.

“An online petition to not allow PAS into the assembly has garnered more than 18,000 signatures in less than a week,” she said in a statement today.

She added it is extremely disappointing that the GRS government has failed to recognise the need to nominate women to the assembly.

“Appointing the only two assemblywomen from GRS as assistant ministers in the same ministry not only shows that GRS has no faith in the abilities of its women reps but also indicates stereotyping by putting them both in the Ministry of Community Development and People's Wellbeing.” – The Vibes, October 8, 2020
